Choose a workable tempo
On this page
Choose a pace at which a short phrase stays accurate and relaxed before raising the BPM.
What to listen for
Listen to the phrase, not only the number. A faster tempo is useful only while the task stays controlled.

Opens in a new tab. Review the settings, then press Start when ready.
- Choose a short phrase you already know. Start with the suggested 60 BPM or adjust before Start.
- Repeat it three times. Listen for uneven spacing and notice whether the movement stays relaxed.
- If it stays controlled, raise BPM by five and repeat. If an error repeats or tension rises, stop and lower BPM.
What to check
Name a starting BPM at which three consecutive repetitions remain accurate and evenly spaced.
When to simplify
Keep the phrase shorter or lower the starting BPM. Change the tempo only after the original task is repeatable.
How to use a metronome speed trainer
